Diverticlosis diet tips
To be honest I'm not 100% sure about all this information. Some is correct some not too sure on. Certainly doesn't really agree with the survey results we did for the End Diverticulitis reference. certainly white bread is full of gluten so that is a problem. also"Cheerios, Cornflakes, Cream of Wheat, Rice Krispies, Special K
arrowroot cookies, tea biscuits, soda crackers, plain melba toast
white rice, refined pasta and noodles"
white rice has little fiber, so is not good.
some of the cereals have a high sugar content and i doubt they have any significant fiber content.
what need doing here is clarifying if this is for Diverticulitis or Diverticulosis.

Thank you for posting The Diverticulitis Diet" tips from my blog at http://eatknowhow.wordpress.com
I graduated with a degree in Dietetics and am more than happy to answer questions and address nutrition facts.
Diverticulitis is the inflamation of the pockets "Diverticula" that line the insdie of your intestinal track. "-itis" means inflammation. Diveticulitis is: "the inflammation of the Diverticula". This is very painful for those who have it. They are not able to eat foods with seeds: strawberries, nuts, grains (because of the hulls) or popcorn. The particles of these foods get hung up on the diverticula and the result is severe pain. Often times surgery is required to amend the intestinal problem. Therefore, processed grains are recommended for the new dietary intake as adjustments are made to this nutritionally related pathology.

I applaud your desire to learn more about nutrition and your dislaimer at the begining of your post. I have been on other blogs that were clearly posted based on assumption, without further research into medical or nutritional science books to back their statements.
Diverticulosis is the pouching of the Diverticulum within the intestinal lining. The Diverticulosis Diet may still include fruits with skins, brown rice and grains. More fiber rich in diet than the diet of enriched flour used to manage the painful Diverticulitis.
For follow-up to my statements, you may do a quick check at the following websites, one which is a goverment site and the other from the Mayo Clinic, or any medical science book.

I have a little theory about corn strawberry seeds etc. and that is that these are indigestable fiber. the body cannot do anything to them. and when taken in large amounts (usually things like popcorn) they cause trouble as they get caught in the diverticuli. However if they are consumed in very small batches as part of a regular high fiber diet, they tend to get pushed through and not caught.
More than one person has told me they do not have trouble with strawberries.
Corn is a different matter.
do you think chow mein can cause problems. it seemed to be bothering me. not sure or if its something that is in it???????? causes pain and sluggish bowel. could msg be a factor?? i usually buy chicken balls fried rice asnd chow mein. it never bothered me until recently somi,m confused. i,ve had diverticulites for 5 years.
lots of things can cause a problem. stress, or a simple imbalance in the digestive tract. chow mein may have something in it that is just a bit on the edge for yourself. I would try breaking the meal down a bit and trying to identify things in the chow mein. sounds a bit of a pain to have to do, but it will help in the long run if you can identify something that is a bit dodgy. say cabbage etc. could also be that the vege's in the chow mein change with the season. usually with this type of food the veges used vary slightly depending on what is in season.
